Lambert's Cottage, Stamford
Lambert's Cottage originally formed part of a maltings complex [built 1822] having been converted into a dwelling at the turn of the 19th century, which helps to explain the cottage's characterful 'quirky' interior! The cottage, which has just recently been redecorated and tastefully furnished throughout with specially commissioned pieces of painted furniture in the French 'shabby chic' style, together with various hand-picked antiques, endeavours to create the unique atmosphere of a French boutique hotel, with associated romantic undertones.
The cottage which is located in the St Martins area of Stamford, south of the river Welland, is only a two minute walk away from the The George Hotel, reputed to be England's finest coaching inn. Certainly, on a cold winter's night, there can be no better feeling than to relax on a comfortable sofa in front of the hotel's magnificent log fire inglenook, whilst enjoying a glass of one's favourite beverage!
Notwithstanding that Stamford [an architectural gem] and surrounding area, boasts an embarassment of attractions and restaurants, many of national standing, plus being the favoured location for film makers of period 'block-busters', Stamford remains the 'best kept secret' of The English Tourist Board! This in itself however brings its own benefit, as it means that visitors to Stamford can absorb the town's unique charm, without the intrusion of excessive numbers of tourists.
