Stamford in Lincolnshire, is just one mile from the A1[motorway] one and a half hours drive by car, north of London. The A47 between Peterborough and Leicester passes just 5 miles away, while Cambridge is only 45 minutes to the south. Peterborough [15 minutes away by rail] is just an hour from London by train. Lambert's Cottage is only a very short walk from Stamford's delightful listed train station. From London, it is necessary to change trains at Peterborough.

When travelling by car on the A1 Motorway, either north or south bound, head for Stamford on the B1081. This road in bygone days was known as the Old Great North Road, much favoured by highwaymen [including the ledgendry Dick Turpin] in the 18th and 19th century, who preyed on the many stage-coaches travelling between London and York.

The entrance to the town, past Burghley House's 'pepper-potts' gateway, on the right, is always breathtaking. The first sight of the town, is of St Martins, down the hill to the famous George Hotel, a view described by Sir Walter Scott as 'the finest twixt London and Edinburgh!' Lambert's Cottage can be found at 2 Church Street [PE9 2JX], located off the High Street, just prior to the George Hotel and opposite St Martin's Church.
